Safeguard Your Sanctuary

Newsletter from October 22, 2025

Hi dear student,

Maybe it’s carving wooden puppets, maybe it’s tending your garden, playing your piano or going for a walk in your favourite park; I would consider all those activities to be a possible sanctuary, like Meditation is and Mindfulness. Choosing time to spend in your sanctuary is choosing to come back to the now. Coming back from the whirlwind of a fast spinning world that constantly wants to pull you away from your own center, distracts you from your “soul-center”.

If we loose that center, we loose ourselves. If we loose ourselves we ignore our soul calling, our precious opportunity to truly make a difference in this world.

A sanctuary is a sacred space. We must guard this sacred space, and be on the constant lookout for all the distractions that pull us out of this space. Only you can truly protect that space. Your feelings are a good indicator showing you if you have left your sanctuary. Anxiety, fear and worry are typical examples of your own mind intruding your sanctuary, pulling you into a distant past that is gone, or a future that has not yet materialised, away from the only time that really matters, your precious here and now.

Yes of course, sometimes it is good and necessary to ponder the past and future, but if it never really allows us to fully dwell in the here and now, we are definitely missing out on all the good stuff.

Our body postures and breathing are other great indicators inviting us to return to our sanctuary. Tight shoulders and forgetting to breathe will disconnect us from the abundant good energy available to us at any time. Just one deep breath can already help us to “come back”.

Does it mean we should hide from the world, the internet and watching the news? I don‘t think so, but there is a clear distinction between staying informed, chosing carefully or getting sucked into a dark hole of negativity.

We live in very challenging times, where all the terrors of the world are rubbed into our awareness non stop, where the golden age of information seems to drown into a muddy ocean of AI (the “I” often standing for insanity), where we will loose our own sanity if we do not actively nurture our sanctuaries and our HSI (Human Soulful Intelligence).

Sanctuaries come in many forms and are widely available to us. We have the choice to consciously invest in a good book, good music, good company or in the case of my students and me, to build a nurturing puppet show that matters. Does it matter? Of course it does!

Everything that springs from our sacred space matters and has the power to open a crack into the shadow and let in the light. That is why it is so important to invest into yourself, to give yourself space and time and let that sanctuary grow and extend. From your personal sanctuary you can build save relationships, save families, save communities.

In that sense I want to extend my gratitude today to all my amazing students that have made our online community such a truly unique, save and supportive sanctuary. Also a big cyber hug to everyone out there that keeps honouring their soul calling and has the heart and grit to keep creating, dancing, singing and loving, by save-guarding their personal and communal sanctuaries.

Please keep shining your light, it does matter!

Best regards from the Whale Fjord in Iceland,
Bernd
