🤸‍♀️ The Birthright of a Safe Community 🥰

Newsletter from June 1, 2026

Hi dear student,

The reason I am so excited about the upcoming transformation in our company operations is my deep belief in the value and power of community. If creativity is our birthright, as contemplated in my last newsletter, then it might be a safe and supportive community that can best assist us in being creative. Our home, our country, should, of course, offer such a safe environment, but the daily news report differently… so what to do?

Build safe communities wherever we can! Over the last five years, since Covid invited me to establish our Academy of the Puppet, our online community has proven to be a place of calm, steady, and encouraging support for people from all corners of the world, transcending political and religious borders by focusing on kindness and our creative power. From New York to Hawaii, from Iran to Israel, from Tasmania to South Africa, Ukraine, and Russia, our participants have one common goal: to nurture their creativity, release their soulful artistic longing and talents, and in doing so affect the world around them in so many positive ways.

We might be best able to take care of the larger world by first taking care of and nurturing ourselves, so our empowered and happy selves can create positive ripple effects beyond our wildest imagination.

I still need to remind myself daily to take proper care of my body and mind. Woke up this morning a little overwhelmed with all the many projects I am working on, fun though they might be. I jumped up and wanted to rush right into action. Knowing better, I took a deep breath and settled down for my morning meditation first, and afterwards walked down to the river to take a dip in the ice-cold water coming straight from the mountains surrounding the new country setting of Worlds of Puppets. I walked carefully past the stony nest of the Oyster Catcher, who keeps protesting my regular disturbances with turbulent flights and upset calls from his long orange beak. He quickly settled down again back on his three eggs that must be ready to hatch any day now. Straight into the greenhouse from there, excited to see my veggies grow and wondering which of the 7 types of new strawberry plants will do best here in my local climate. I need this natural life around me to be able to sustain working long hours on the computer and serve my students.

Lucky you are! Many will claim, for living in such a privileged place. Fortunate and privileged, I feel indeed, but it is also important to recognize that my living here and spending my days following my deepest calling is the result of conscious choices. Like everyone else, I had my share of dark nights of the soul, which I needed to embrace and accept as a guiding light to bring me where I am today. And challenges will continuously be offered to us all as perpetual opportunities to grow.

But challenges are so much easier to tackle in the company of a safe community. I am grateful for my incredible team: Anna Maria, Leandra, Niels, and Mark, who make Worlds of Puppets operations possible. They keep helping me to grow and stay on track, do what I cannot do, and bring their special talents and hearts to our community. So do our wonderful students who share with me daily lessons of positive results, built on encouragement and sustainability.

So, when will I announce the good news of our upcoming company restructuring that I keep talking about? Let me say the birthday cake is in the oven (yes, Worlds of Puppet is turning 40 years and the Academy of the Puppet 5 years old!) Hang on tight, it will be truly tasty and all worthwhile the wait and joyful anticipation. My wonderful team of magic makers is super busy getting everything ready for our big party! I‘ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, I wish you all the best for this brand-new week. I will now walk over to our new Worlds of Puppets Residence, which will host some of our over thirty summer retreat guests descending soon from over 10 countries to Iceland for an intense week of study in the safe and nurturing community of like-minded creative spirits. Wishing you could all be here, hopefully one day you will!

Bernd
