Our Sustainable Birthright to Creativity 🤸‍♀️

Newsletter from May 25, 2026

Hi dear student,

Watching my grandchildren play and my youngest audiences interact when I perform for/with them, I am reminded of the need of creativity in our human nature. For children to be playfully creative seems widely accepted, although in so many troubled regions of this world this is unfortunately not guaranteed.

For us adults it seems that we need to find all kind of formal excuses, like becoming a professional puppeteer or kindergarten teacher to stay in the perpetual realm of creative play and discovery. May it be painting, pottery, music, dance, and of course carving marionettes or learning more about Puppetry, I reckon most of us connected here through this Newsletter and our online courses would like to invest more time to our creative birthright. Can we make it happen?

In my own career of 40 years as a professional puppeteer I have now shifted part of my own creative energy from performing to passing on my hard-earned knowledge to everyone that wants to learn and practice their creative birthright. Yes, Worlds of Puppets will celebrate its 40th Anniversary! Aging is great if you are having fun, and we are sure planning some fun and truly exciting adventures for this special year.

YOU are of course in our minds and invited to be part of our ongoing celebration!

Instead of big parties we are dedicating our energy on fruitful transformation, growth and enhancement of our online community, which has become a sanctuary for so many:

– I am looking forward meeting many of you in person when I will tour Malta, Costa Rica and Mexico etc. later this year. (will keep you updated about exact performance places and dates)

– I will meet over thirty of our advanced students here in Iceland this summer for our annual Retreat Intensive. Maybe also you will join us one day?!

– In the fall we will be moving our studios from Reykjavik to the countryside. As you know I consider gardening, horses and the great outdoors all part of our operations. We will be “broadcasting” from our paradise in the backcountry of Iceland’s Whalefjord.

– Through our upcoming Podcast and Youtube Channels we will better stay connected as you can witness our activities and projects evolving, while receiving your valuable share of insightful and inspiring puppetry information.

– My new book has silently been reaching its audience, and we received so many wonderfully heartwarming reviews. I have not yet dedicated the appropriate time for an official launch, but it is already available to you on our website and through Amazon.

And here’s the big one:

Our goal is making our courses available to everyone!!! Yes EVERYONE! Finances have been preventing some eager Puppet-makers from joining our courses, others wanted to get away from Facebook and social media in general. We found a solution!

My team of miracle workers has been super creative in setting up a new platform to make this possible. I will soon make the big announcement with all the details involved, stay tuned!

In all honesty I need to add here: that’s a lot of activity, yet we are doing all this in a sustainable and joyful way! I had too many years of overworking and being stressed and exhausted. Now we are doing it the happy way and allowing for the proper time needed for every good endeavor. Although I consider unhampered creativity to be our birthright, it is super important especially for us creative minds to learn to pace ourselves. Ideas are much quicker created in our heads than brought to fruition. So, cheers to our “sustainable birthright of creativity”!

These are the happy updates from Worlds of Puppets in Iceland. Thank you for your continued interest in our work and supporting us to bring joy and creativity to this world. Like always wishing you a wonderful week full of joyful creativity.

Bernd
