What It Means to Be an Artist

Hi dear student,
I have been contemplating what it really means for me to be an artist:
- It is not about perfection; it is about being human.
- It is the brave imperfection that makes the human, soulful and unique artistic effort such a powerful tool.
- It is about a fragile yet one-of-a-kind chance to make a difference.
It is about finding your distinctive creative spirit, your eccentric, erratic, odd, outlandish, peculiar, quaint and strange reflections of the world. - It is about your relentless reflections that bring new visions to this world.
- It is about honing these gifts and visions given to you.
- It is about lending your visions and voice to those that have none.
- It is about your unmissable gifts to this world.
- It is about being honest to yourself so you can be honest to the world, not driven by money, fame or self-satisfaction, but by the underlying, elementary longing to share and serve.
- It is about being brave enough to share, against all odds.
This is what came to my mind when contemplating my life as an artist, and I can imagine there are as many versions to this poem as there are artist in the world. I esteem it healthy and valuable to ask ourselves what our occupation really means to us.
